Game Preview: New Jersey Devils vs Colorado Avalanche
While the Devils have shown off their scoring abilities, even with Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier still out of the lineup, the Avalanche present an opportunistic offense and a tougher defense to get around. They are just 18th in the league in shot attempts and 25th in Goals For, and most shockingly, they have been shut out in 3 of their last 4 games, despite 41 SOG in their most recent matchup in Vegas. The talents of Nathan Mackinnon, who is at the top of table for Shot Attempts per 60 (of players who have played 4+ games) speak to their scoring capabilities. Cale Makar is starting to see a slight increase in Points per 60 but not many Avs players are seeing similar momentum. If the Avs want to stop the Jesper Bratt, who is 9th in Points per 60 (5.05), they will have to do it using their defense, which has allowed the 2nd fewest SOG on the season (292) and 9th fewest per game (29.2).
